Australia introduces identification number requirement for directors
Australian Business Registry Services (hereinafter, ‘ABRS’) is contacting company directors with reminder to apply for their director ID on their own. A director ID is a unique number that identifies an individual as a director of an Australian company, registered Australian body or Australian registered foreign company.
The deadline for this obligation is 30 November 2022 for directors appointed before 1 November 2021, while for directors appointed after 1 November but before 4 April 2022-the application for ID shall be submitted within 28 days of their appointment. For all new appointees from 5 April 2022, an application for ID must be submitted prior to the appointment itself.
Should director not comply with a newly set out requirement, it may be considered a criminal offence and relevant penalties will apply.
