Electronic signatures in Singapore: why and what to know?
Electronic signatures in Singapore are legally recognized by the Electronic Transactions Act 2010 (“ETA”) and are commonly used by local companies. According to ETA, e-signatures may bear the same legal status as a scanned physical signature as long as the requirements provided in Section 8 of the ETA are met. This is good news for businesses because corporate documents such as minutes, resolutions, letters and forms can be signed using electronic signatures. As a result, in Singapore the interest to switch to e-signing is constantly increasing. This certainly helps to accelerate and ease the signing processes, especially where multiple signatories and different locations come into play. The process to formally adopt the use of electronic signature for corporate document execution of companies is straight forward and worth a try.
