France – Introduction of the European Unique Identifier (EUID) System
France has implemented the European Unique Identifier (EUID) in accordance with EU Directive 2012/17/EU and Implementing Regulation (EU) 2021/1042, establishing a standardized identification framework across all EU Member States.
The EUID now appears on French Kbis extracts, the official documents confirming a company’s legal existence, and is fully connected to the Business Registers Interconnection System (BRIS).
This enhancement strengthens cross‑border transparency, enables instant verification of company details, and supports fraud‑prevention measures across the EU.
Key Changes
As of the 1st of December 2025, the EUID is mandatory for all French‑registered entities. After automatic allocation, the identifier is displayed on official Kbis extracts issued by the commercial register.
The introduction of the EUID represents a major step toward EU‑wide registry interoperability and supports smoother cross‑border corporate operations.
What the EUID Facilitates
The inclusion of the EUID on Kbis extracts enables:
- Efficient identification of companies in other EU Member States via BRIS
- Access to verified official information (directors, articles of association, filings, procedures)
- Greater security for cross‑border transactions, including mergers, restructurings, audits, and due diligence
- Streamlined compliance reviews and KYC processes
- Improved reliability in information exchanges between European authorities
This initiative aligns with the broader EU objective of harmonizing business registry systems and supports future integration with tools such as the European Digital Identity Wallet.
