Germany – Extended Deadline for 2023 Financial Statement Filing

Germany’s Federal Office of Justice (BfJ), in coordination with the Federal Ministry of Justice, has announced an important update regarding the filing of financial statements for the financial year 2023.

Key Points
1. Extended Grace Period

Administrative fine proceedings for late filing of FY 2023 financial statements will not be initiated until the 1st of April 2025.

This extended deadline applies only to FY 2023. It does not affect filing requirements for FY 2022 or earlier years.

2. Penalties for Late Filing After Grace Period:

If financial statements for FY 2023 are filed after the 1st of April 2025, companies will face:

  • A court warning
  • A fee of €100 (as per Justice Administration Costs Act)
  • An additional €3.50 for service expenses

Companies operating in Germany should take advantage of this extended grace period to ensure accurate and timely filing of their 2023 financial statements. While the deadline has been extended, it’s advisable to prepare and file statements as early as possible to avoid potential penalties.
