South Africa: Final Extension for PAIA manual

In South Africa, the Minister for Justice and Correctional Services has once again extended an exemption by six months to certain private bodies from having to compile a Promotion of Access to Information Act, 2000 manual (commonly known as PAIA Manual). The exemption has been granted on the basis of sector, number of employees, and annual turnover. It should be highlighted that this is a final extension and effective from 1 January 2022. All public and private bodies, including those that are currently exempted, must have their PAIA Manuals available at their principal place of business or on their website if any.

Furthermore, in terms of the recent update, the companies are no longer required to submit the same to The South African Human Rights Commission or Information Regulator. The only instance wherein the entity shall be required to submit a Manual to the Information Regulator is upon request.
